The University of California, Irvine (UCI), invites applications for an open rank faculty position (assistant, associate or full professor) in the area of theoretical materials science research, with an emphasis on quantum materials or quantum chemistry. The ideal candidate would lead a dynamic research program in the electronic structure of materials or molecules, integrating new directions such as machine learning or quantum computation. This position will be affiliated with either the Department of Physics and Astronomy or the Department of Chemistry, depending on the qualifications and expertise of the selected candidate.
UCI has a vibrant and collaborative research environment in materials science, anchored by the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center MRSEC, which is supported by the National Science Foundation. UCI is also home to the Eddleman Quantum Institute EQI, which fosters collaborations in research and education in the broad area of quantum science. Within this academic milieu, prospective candidates will find plentiful opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration and professional growth.

Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should have a demonstrated record of collaborative research and are expected to lead or actively contribute to collaborations within the MRSEC and EQI. Successful candidates should have a strong and consistent track record of research achievements, and clear and effective plans to secure external funding for research endeavors. Candidates should also have the demonstrated record and/or clear plans to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses and to mentor students who pursue advanced academic degrees.
