Aegis Aerospace has a long legacy of developing space hardware payloads for the International Space Station and more recently for NASA's Lunar missions. We continue to expand our portfolio of projects as we are developing yet another ISS payload and hardware for a commercial space station. We are seeking a skilled Aerospace Engineer to join our project team in Webster, TX to design the hardware required to support these exciting projects. The successful candidate will be an experienced product development engineer responsible for designing, procuring, assembling and testing mechanisms, structures, and electronic packaging hardware. This role is for a 2 Year contract with pay not to exceed 29 hours a week. Key Responsibilities The Aerospace Engineer will be responsible for: • Interpreting mechanical hardware requirement specifications from interfacing systems. • Developing and documenting mechanical system requirements in collaboration with stakeholders. • Conducting concept trade studies and providing mechanical expertise to evaluate design options. • Planning and executing verification and validation activities to ensure the mechanical design meets all requirements. • Preparing and presenting design progress, approach, and rationale to design review boards. • Ensuring hardware designs meet size, weight, power, and cost budgets. • Authoring, updating, and maintaining hardware specifications throughout the project lifecycle. • Defining and baselining mechanical interfaces with stakeholders to ensure seamless system integration. • Performing and/or reviewing stress, thermal, and dynamic analyses using tools such as SolidWorks and Thermal Desktop. • Overseeing the preparation, review, and release of mechanical drawings to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project schedules. • Authoring detailed assembly procedures to ensure hardware is built to specifications. • Developing test procedures to verify mechanical hardware compliance with specifications and drawings. • Executing procurement, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical hardware to meet project milestones and quality standards. • Contributing to safety documentation and presenting to safety review boards as required. • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including electrical, systems, and quality engineers, to ensure project success. • Performing other duties as assigned to support project objectives. • Minimal travel required; occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to meet project deadlines. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field from an accredited university or college. • At least five years of mechanical engineering experience in product development for spaceflight, aerospace, or other high-reliability, high-specification equipment. • Proficiency in solid modeling CAD software, such as SolidWorks, for designing mechanical structures, mechanisms, or assemblies. • Demonstrated experience conducting trade studies for mechanical design optimization. • Competent with basic engineering calculations for stress, thermal, and dynamic analysis. • Excellent organizational and time management skills with sound engineering judgment. • Highly dependable, self-motivated, and accountable, with the ability to work effectively in a team or independently. • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder). Must successfully complete a U.S. government background check. Desired Qualifications • Experience designing, procuring, manufacturing, and testing hardware for extreme environments (e.g., space, high-temperature, or high-vibration conditions). • Familiarity with industry standards for mechanical design, manufacturing, and testing in aerospace or spaceflight applications. • Competence with SolidWorks Simulator and/or Thermal Desktop • Experience with configuration management and version control of design documentation.
